Noticed that a few more of Bill (F-12)'s results were available (all bar 26-37 now in), along with his predicted haplogroup (unexpectedly I1).
Results page updated, showing an excellent match with F-1 and F-2, again as expected, once you believe his ancestor John is indeed a son of David and Jane (Williamson) FAIRBAIRN, which theory this certainly vindicates.
Just to make things tidy, the two of the group with un-predicted haplogroups have had their Backbone SNP tests requested (advertised as free where haplogroups could not be predicted or confirmed).
For all interested in the FAIRBAIRN (and variants) surname - this blog is the project diary for both the One Name Study and the DNA Project.

"cousins" update
The final panel of results are (finally) in for Joe (F-10), one side of the triangular "cousins" mystery centering on John A of Hoquiam, and still show he is more connected to the second group of lineage one who share marker 391 = 10 and marker 520 = 20 rather than the 9 and 21 respectively of the descendant of William & Jean (WANLESS) FAIRBAIRN that he was expected to match more closely, given that William's brother is meant to be David, forbear of one side of the cousin triangle.
The results for the 3rd side of the triangle, William (F-12) aren't scheduled until towards the end of March. Patience.
Would still be good to get a confirmed descendant of David & Jane (WILLIAMSON) FAIRBAIRN into the project to help pinpoint these linkages more, given the uncertainties in the paper trail for David and Jane's son John.
Another set of results are still missing in action somewhere between Australia and Houston, and the status updates are yet to be received on the remaining kits known to be out there, only recently sent, so again, patience.
Results page has been updated, and any necessary changes to the supplementary pages on DNASurnames will follow later when time permits.

New recruit ; Wanted! page updated ++
Pity it was after the discount period ended, but never mind, the project now has a representative for the family of John A FAIRBAIRN Snr of Stillwater, the lynch pin family for the 3 cousinships claimed: to Angus, a descendant of David & Jane (WILLIAMSON) FAIRBAIRN, and to Albert, the Sunderland emigrant to Hoquiam, a descendant of Robert and Elizabeth (TAYLOR) FAIRBAIRN, represented in the project by Joe (F-10).
Thank you William (F-12), look forward to seeing how this match pans out, as you should be a match to Roy (F-3) if all our detective work is accurate.
It would still be great to have a proven descendant from David and Jane (WILLIAMSON) FAIRBAIRN to represent their lineage though as the identification of John A as David and Jane's son does rather go against two of his official certificates.
Check out the updated pages linked above for more information on some of the assumptions involved in the identifications.
Finished working on a version of the Patriarchs report for John and Helen (ANDERSON) FAIRBAIRN.
Also included this as a descendancy chart on the supplementary dnasurnames.info site where some additional notes may be found.
A link to this is now included on the FAIRBAIRN Wanted! page.
The chart is NOT a full descendancy report for John and Helen as it is only trying to identify those lines where the project may find a representative for the line.
So many FAIRBAIRN families claim "oh we're related to Sir William", without verifying this claim that it would be wonderful to have a proven dna signature for the John and Helen lineage, ie at least two distant cousins from the line.
Any takers? Anyone in touch with any of the family?

11th kit, and assorted pedigree updates
Welcome to James, our 11th participant.
I've been fossicking around trying to see if I might manage to link up the 1a, 1b, 1c lineages.
Jury still out on that, but as a result I have included more information on likely progenitors for a couple of these lineages, and added comments about same to the relevant pages, in particular:
George and Janet (Murray) Fairbairn
James and Elspeth (Trotter) Fairbairn and possible son
Thomas (possibly marr. Isobel Smith)
(and as a result, my knowledge of some of the earlier Fairbairn families has grown considerably).
Also, as per my personal web pages, John A (marr. Sarah Daughterty and Charity Smithson) Fairbairn has now been officially placed as son of David & Jane (WILLIAMSON) - but the plea for representative of this line to join the dna project still stands as my identification goes against two of his official certificates, (marriage and death).

Welcome to our 10th participant
Joe (F-10) has joined the project. He is a descendant of the Albert of Liverpool who emigrated to Hoquiam, Washington State, whose obituary stated that John A FAIRBAIRN Jr of Hoquiam was a "cousin", although it is very unclear from paper trails how this might be.
Any male FAIRBAIRN descendant of John's would also be most welcome to join to "test" this stated relationship, especially as John's family also claim cousinship with descendants of David and Jane (WILLIAMSON) FAIRBAIRN, David being a brother to William of Wakefield Quebec, ancestor of Roy (F-3)
The DNA Surnames pages have been updated to include Joe and his lineage, and the FAIRBAIRN Wanted! pages likewise.

Cousins needed
Participants needed from families of John A & Sarah (DAUGHTERTY) FAIRBAIRN of Hoquiam, Washington State, David & Jane (WILLIAMSON) FAIRBAIRN of Quebec, and Robert & Elizabeth (TAYLOR) FAIRBAIRN (family of Sunderland then Liverpool and London).
Descendants of both David and Robert claim to be cousins to descendants of John A & Sarah.
Would be good to find out how come as there is no immediately obvious link in at least 4 generations.

24th: Project initiation
Project initiated by Lorna, descendant of Archibald FAIRBAIRN & Alison CROSSER of the Scottish Borders (http://lornahen.com/)
My particular interest being to check, if possible, relationships between Archibald FAIRBAIRN's family and that of John and Elizabeth (MILLER) FAIRBAIRN of Bovina, Delaware, NY, USA, whose father was a Walter from Roxburghshire. John being of an age to slot into a gap in Walter's children.
I should also like to determine/confirm other linkages between assorted FAIRBAIRN families from the Scottish Borders, particularly

- David and Jane (WILLIAMSON) FAIRBAIRN who ended up in Canada (Quebec Province) and
- William and Jean (WANLESS) FAIRBAIRN of Wakefield, Quebec
