The Fairbairn One Name Study Lineage pages have been updated to reflect any updates over the last month or so (check the Latest Changes index for the people changed but that wont necessarily reflect any changes to descendant charts.)
One reason for this activity was to include a working assumption for the ancestors/relations of Robert FAIRBAIRN, the Thames waterman, whose descendant's dna results are still tracking along the Lineage one modal over all of the main matching Fairbairn groups.
It should be pointed out that the Fairbairn One Name Study is registered with the Guild of One Name Studies separately from that for Fairburn.
The DNA project however covers all surname variants, including Fairburn.
Why is this being mentioned here?
Yes, many of the Scottish Fairbairns moved south and became Fairburn, so many of the trees shown have Fairburn and other variants as their surnames, but technically, the ONS pages are for FAIRBAIRN.
An exception has been made for the above Robert's suggested parents, John & Ann (ARROWSMITH) FAIRBURN of Durham, then Deptford.
Primarily because of the possible link to Robert above, but also because of the Durham, and ship building link.
The Summary DNA Patriarchs page has also had a very brief tree included for John & Ann's family who included an early New Zealand missionary, William Thomas FAIRBURN;
For all interested in the FAIRBAIRN (and variants) surname - this blog is the project diary for both the One Name Study and the DNA Project.

Summary Patriarchs page
The Summary Patriarchs Page has had a long overdue review for broken links.
Many are as a result of the shift of lineages and researchers from the Supplementary DNA pages (on DNA Surnames, was the DNA Projects Portal) to the One Name Study lineage pages, which should now be complete.

Stamfordham, Northumberland (NBL)
A stub from the Summary Patriarchs page for the family of Robert & Mary (ATKINSON) FAIRBAIRN of Stamfordham that has existed for quite some time without further information has been updated and linked to their tree now included in the One Name Study pages.
This tree includes two branches linked on circumstantial evidence:
- Son Robert (married to Ann DODD), linked by birth date and place and a missing first son, elder brother of Stephen to be found
- Grandson John of Erie, Pennsylvania, (married to Elizabeth HUBBARD) assumed son of Stephen & Jane (JACKSON) FAIRBAIRN
Investigations for other Stamfordham FAIRBAIRNs led to a couple more inventive indexing candidates: William and John sons of a John, near contemporary to the above Robert, were indexed as FARIBEWER and FAIRBWIER respectively, even though their clearly enumerated relationship to John (born abt 1778 at Stamfordham and indexed as FAIRBAIRN, living at Horsley Barns) was son in both instances.

Tweaks
Summary DNA result page has been republished to catch up with the more detailed DNA results which confirmed a dna signature for the line of John A FAIRBAIRN & Sarah DAUGHTERTY (see David F-46's DNA page)
The Patriarchs page likewise has had a few links changed to reflect the shift of lineage data from the DNA pages to the One Name Study (ONS) pages, and a few Edinburgh twigs included for the line of John & Alison (MOFFAT) FAIRBAIRN, which twigs are also included in their ONS lineage 1b4b descendant chart, that of Robert & Elizabeth (CROSBIE) FAIRBAIRN. John & Alison's son John was found working as a mason in Edinburgh (born Smailholm).

Another kit, patriarch updates
Kit F-47 has been ordered.
As a result, the summary Patriarchs page has been updated with Andrew's pedigree, (that of David & Peggy (MERCER) FAIRBAIRN of Melrose) and a placeholder on the results chart.
Also a couple of other pedigrees, both wanting representatives have now been added.
The trees are those of: George the nail manufacturer of Falkirk, Stirlingshire and a few more twigs on the tree of George & Jane (LAW) FAIRBAIRN of Nenthorn, down from the Free Kirk Minister Robert Trotter FAIRBAIRN.

Outline pedigree and dna results
More DNA results in, most of those for F-42, a representative of yet another Earlston/Greenlaw Berwickshire family.
Supplementary pages, and summary result pages updated, and an outline pedigree added to the Patriarchs page.
We are still missing one panel of these results, but those received to date place F-42 in Lineage 1 "clump 2", with fine tuning yet to come.
Family Tree DNA have announced an Upgrade discount promotion should anyone wish to explore what more markers will tell them about their connections.
The Family Finder test is also discounted - but only via dna projects by the look of Family Tree DNA's front page pricing, so make sure any orders are via your personal page.
Details and instructions on the overall diary for the dna projects portal.

John & Alice/Alison (AINSLIE) FAIRBAIRN
A pedigree for the family of John & Alice/Alison (AINSLIE) FAIRBAIRN has been included in the "lineages" on the One Name Study pages.
John is one of the two contemporary Johns buried at Swinton (Berwickshire, Scotland) within months of each other.
The other, John (married to Helen CAMPBELL) is already represented in the DNA Project, and a representative for John and Alice's family is still sought, for which purpose, a DNA oriented outline pedigree has also been included on the Summary DNA Patriarch Page

26th: Yet more entries for most inventive indexing: Patriarchs update
More entries for the most inventive indexing competition:
I'd not found a Rachel FAIRBAIRN I'd been looking for, she was clearly FAIRBAIRN on FreeCen, but ancestry for some obscure reason had her as FREEBURN, a common enough substitution.
Her son Robinson however took the cake: JAEBAIRNER.
Other recent "entries":
FRANBURN, FAIRVAIRN and FAIRBINEN
Another outline tree has been added to the Patriarchs page, a family with Durham, and a bit of Yorkshire, thrown in for good measure, that of John FAIRBAIRN and Mary CROMBY/CROMLEY/CROMEY (married 1743 Whickham, Durham), depending on how you interpret the family bible (CROMBY or CROMLEY), and the Northumberland & Durham FHS indexes (CROMEY) on FindMyPast.

Family Crests
An outline for the family of James FAIRBAIRN of "Fairbairn's Crests of the Families of Great Britain and Ireland" (1860), fame, has been added to the Patriarchs page, linked to further information in the One Name Study pages.
Some of the related surnames in the family are PATON, MUIR, VEITCH, OCKLEFORD, PARIS, BEDDARD, SHAW, WALKER, at least two of which husands (VEITCH and WALKER) are from the Scottish Borders, which may, or may not, indicate George's origins prior to when he marries Robina (aka Jemima, of Alloa) in Edinburgh in 1802.
More entries for the most inventive indexing competition:
Faubus, Fairbwm, Taerbaire, Fawbaine

Smailholm FAIRBAIRNs
Another outline pedigree has been added to the Patriarchs page, that of John and Elspeth (ANDERSON) of Girnick, Smailholm.
With son James being commemorated at Earlston on a headstone near that of John and Agnes (GIBSON), and shown as not born Roxburghshire in 1841, there has to be some connection between these families.
With the discount promotion running out on the 31st of the month (see here for details), now would be an great time for a descendant of this line to pop out of the woodwork, particularly given our recent excellent matches within lineage 1f. (One line, at least, emigrated to Australia, and were in Queensland).
Stub added to the One Name Study pages, and a link included in the Wanted! pages.

23rd: Another 66/67 match
Thank you John (F-35) for upgrading to the full 67 markers.
As a result we now know there's a 66/67 match between F-35 and F-27 to aid the jigsaw, with F-35's lineage being an early Kelso line, with possible documented links in the records to that of their next closest FAIRBAIRN match, David(TROTTER) F-7.
Summary Result chart has been updated, and the patriarchs page has been tweaked to move David(TROTTER) F-7's line closer to the above Lineage 1i.
Still working on the DNA signature chart updates to show how the families may connect.

Key lineage
Check out the updated Patriarchs page for the beginnings of the updates to all the pages as a result of both the latest set of matching results, and several months research.
The main change on the above page is to the FAIRBAIRN/BO lineage, which now incorporates the matches between John(F-17) and Stewart(F-38) showing how they look likely to join up at John and Magdalen (BO) FAIRBAIRN of Lidgatehead, Earlston.
Heaven help me if we do ever get a representative for the line of John and Helen (ANDERSON) FAIRBAIRN, and he is also an exact match, as John and Magdalen's John is now spoken for (several trees show this John as brother to James, father of the John who married Jessie JOHNSTON).
PS For a bit of light hearted fun, most pages now include a "like on facebook" link in the footer. so if you are on Facebook, click the link to get an entry on your home page/profile or wherever it ends up.

8th: Ralph (CROW) FAIRBAIRN
A few more twigs included on the Patriarchs page for the outline pedigree for Ralph and Helen (CROW) FAIRBAIRN, one of the lines still on the Wanted! list for the dna project.
Looks like there may be family still around in the North East of England, some of the family having moved around between: England; Hutton, Whitsome, Edrom and Coldstream (BEW); Sprouston (ROX) and two sons likely to have emigrated to Ontario.

Thick and fast
Well those last result panels came in thick and fast.
Stewart(F-38)'s Y-DNA67 marker results are now in, albeit without a predicted haplogroup as yet, although we can beat FamilyTreeDNA's lab to that one - I1.
He has an exact match with Robert (F-34), the line only GD 1 to the modal for Lineage 1 overall, and that on a faster mutating marker to boot.
Only one marker different is John (F-17), and they constitute a growing little sub group with CDYb = 39 instead of the modal 38.
Summary and supplementary result pages have been updated (F-38 now re-positioned to group matches), and the Patriarchs page rearranged to group these lineages together, ie Stewart(F-38)'s James and Isabel (TAIT), Robert(F-34)'s Alexander and Isabella (ATCHESON) and John(F-17)'s John and Jessie (JOHNSTON).
The related One Name Study pages for this line are gradually being added - some links may be broken between all of the above sections - checking is still underway.

25th: Twig added to George and Jane (LAW)
The Patriarchs page has been updated to include another twig on the line of George and Jane (LAW) FAIRBAIRN of Nenthorn ++.
That of a son Andrew - or at least I believe he was their son, despite his 1899 death cert. saying his father was an Andrew married to a Jane LAW.
Still looking for a representative for this George/Jane line.

A few Patriarch tweaks
The Patriarchs Page has been updated with a few tweaks to the outline descendant charts for:
James & Isabel (TAIT) FAIRBAIRN of West Morriston, Legerwood and Dalkeith, Midlothian
and for
John & Magdalen (BO) FAIRBAIRN of Lidgatehead.
It is not beyond the bounds of possibility that James is the son of John and Magdalen.

West Morriston and Carrolside Mill James
The Patriarchs page has been updated to expand on the outline tree for the James FAIRBAIRNs of Legerwood.
Further investigation, and a lead from a Wikipedia article on the educator and financier John FAIRBAIRN of Cape Town showed that they had to be separate James.
The Wikipedia article quoted John's biography as saying his parents were James and Agnes (BLACK) FAIRBAIRN, and that John was born 1794, Carrolside Mill, Legerwood.
Which led me to the marriage in Lauder (banns also Westruther) of James of Westruther, and Agnes BRACK of Lauder, and also a couple more children for their family, including a William in 1802, so the families of the James of Carrolside and the James & Isabel (TAIT) of West Morriston did overlap after all.
Representatives of both lines wanted, although, it does rather look like John of Cape Town's line has "daughtered out".

Legerwood: West Morriston & Carrolside Miln
Summary Patriarchs page has been updated to include an outline pedigree for some of the family of James & Isabel (TAIT) FAIRBAIRN of West Morriston.
James may, or may not, be the same James having children slightly earlier, whilst living at Carrolside Miln.
Representative wanted.
