Another inventive indexing entry on ancestry - Lait Vain for a name that is clearly FAIRBAIRN on FreeCen.
No wonder Elliot FAIRBAIRN and mother Isabella FAIRBAIRN later BOOKLESS were hard to find!
For all interested in the FAIRBAIRN (and variants) surname - this blog is the project diary for both the One Name Study and the DNA Project.

The Melrose/Norfolk connection
The lineage of Robert and Agnes (BLACK) FAIRBAIRN has been included on the One Name Study pages.
This Robert moved south to Norfolk after his 2nd wife Euphemia ROBSON died (1871).
As the notes indicate, it is possible that this Robert, born abt 1801, Melrose, may be the Robert born 1801 at Broomhill, Melrose to Robert and Margaret (ELLIOT) FAIRBAIRN.
And this Robert is of an age and place to be a son of Robert and Agnes (LANDRETH).
The naming pattern of the known children supports this.
If all true, a descendant of Robert and Agnes (BLACK) should be a good dna match to Earl (F-2).
Any takers?
